In Alaska, landscaping is rarely included in new construction builds, leaving homeowners with a blank slate once the heavy machinery clears out. While this can be frustrating, it also opens the door for creativity and personalization. Fill dirt was brought in to contour the site, topsoil layered to support hardy vegetation, and hydroseed applied to jumpstart a green, low-maintenance lawn. The result is a landscape built from the ground up to reflect both the resilience of the environment and the character of those who call it home.

Scope of Work:
Consultation and Conceptualization:
Held site evaluations and design meetings with the builder and homeowners to assess the raw landscape left after new construction.
Discussed options for transforming the untouched lot into a functional, visually appealing outdoor space that complements Alaska’s natural surroundings.
Design and Planning:
Created a grading and landscaping plan to reshape the terrain for proper drainage, increased usable yard space, and long-term stability.
Planned soil layering, hydroseeding areas, and zones for potential future plantings, pathways, or outbuildings.
Site Preparation and Earthwork:
Imported and distributed fill dirt to raise the ground level, support the home’s foundation, and expand the footprint of the yard.
Graded the land to prevent water pooling and prepare a smooth surface for topsoil placement.
Topsoil Application and Hydroseeding:
Brought in nutrient-rich topsoil to support healthy grass and plant growth, ensuring compatibility with local climate and conditions.
Hydroseeded the entire area with a custom blend designed for cold-resistant, quick-growing grass to establish immediate ground cover and reduce erosion.
Results:
Functional Outdoor Space: The once barren lot is now a well-shaped, seeded yard that’s ready for use and future landscaping.
Climate-Ready Groundwork: The layered fill, soil, and hydroseed provide a strong, low-maintenance foundation tailored for Alaska’s seasons.
Creative Freedom: With the essentials in place, homeowners have a blank canvas to expand with gardens, patios, or outdoor features that reflect their style.

Compacting the fill dirt and base layer for a strong foundation for the upcoming top soil.

Initial topsoil is spread across the backyard awaiting raking and leveling, creating the foundational layer for proper drainage and healthy lawn growth.

Graded the land to prevent water pooling and prepare a smooth surface for topsoil placement.

We're pushing and spreading topsoil using the dozer to establish the initial grade across the backyard. This first pass lays down a rough layer.
